Dunlop Farms was originally a 200 acre tobacco plantation owned by Daniel and Catherine Sickles of Petersburg and purchased by David Dunlop in 1839. In 1856 Dunlop engaged the services of Robert Young of Belfast to build a country estate where he and his family could escape the hustle and bustle of city life in Petersburg. The Italian Villa styled mansion was given the name “Ellerslie” and today is a registered historic landmark.
